The Beginning

DAY 1, PART 1

After having a good night's (almost!) at a pretty Casa in Puerto morales, we packed our plates, cameras, pens and papers to go the the Universite de caribe which was a good 40 minute and 60 pesos from where we stayed. The COY had promised free lunch and the cost of the lunch of us taking our own plates. I being a vegetarian ended up eating leaves but free is free.
Before the lunch we had an ice-breaking session with a cheery Filipino Eco-ambassador doing the honors. It was a good place to meet and greet. I met a few from the Girls scouts who had their interests in Article 6 of the Kyoto Protocol that has everything with do with Education of Climate change and global warming. They were a huge bunch of people from across the world. They were disappointed that could not bring a delegate from India though! If any girl scouts reading this and want to do something to save the world from global warming, you know what to do! Met a few interesting delegates from Taiwan , a place I had been earlier this year and ended up having many common friends with the delegates. So, it was an easy delegation to chat up with. They were a good 5 in number. They had different interests in Climate change which was interesting to learn. We met up with a huge Chinese delegation of 16 . The organization that had sponsored them wanted them to be a social tool than a political lobbying delegation. Another interesting and very educated group of delegated was the SustainUS, which expectantly were huge in number. We- India, China and US quickly decided to do an action on Great Power race during the COP 16. If you do not know what the great power race is , www.greatpowerrace.org . Incidentally, two of the top three places have been clinched by two Indian teams! Yayyyy....
Three cheers for GRIET, Hyderabad and IIT, Delhi.
